Table Mountain cable car

Perhaps it's only me, but this angle of the cable car approaching the Upper Cable Station on Table Mountain is probably one of the most iconic and recognisable Table Mountain photo opportunities not showing the actual mountain.  I especially like this angle when the low clouds push in from the sea and you only see the top of Lions Head sticking out above it.  Now if I can just get the opportunity to photograph it which isn't the easiest thing to…

Kitchen demonstration at Cuyler Manor Museum

Visiting Cuyler Manor Museum in Uitenhage with a couple of colleagues last week, we had an opportunity to be shown around the museum grounds and the old manor house by a very enthusiastic Rosie.  Rosie has been working for the museum for years and even though she isn't a trained guide she could just as well have been.  She told us all the stories regarding specific things around the farm yard, but once we got into the manor house she was…

Visiting Table Mountain

One of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World. Situated within an Unesco World Heritage Site. Part of a National Park. Not just one of Cape Towns most iconic landmarks, but also one of South Africa's.   Who I am? Sound like a question from a game show with the obvious answer being Table Mountain.   Now I hope nobody got it wrong though. Table Mountain was on the top of our list of places to visit while in Cape…

Telkom Tower sunrise

The Damselfly started running a couple of months ago and I have now been drawn into the picture.  The plan was for her and her running partner to go and do the Knysna Forest Half Marathon in July and unfortunately her partner had to pull out because she is unable to go.  That is where I come in.  Kinda voluntarily forced.  So I'm slowly putting in more effort in the gym and started doing the 5km fun runs on Saturday…

Diving lessons

I'm a qualified scuba diver but I haven't "blown bubbles" as they say for probably 10 years.  So I was very excited when Ocean Divers International (ODI) invited a couple of us from the office for an educational.  Two of us had dived before while the other four were all virgin divers.  It was such an amazing experience getting back in the pool with the full kit on again and brushing up on the skills.  The next day we headed out to sea…

Checking for sharks

Watching the penguins in the pool enclosure at SAMREC (South African Marine Rehabilitation and Education Centre) at Cape Recife can be very interesting and often makes for great photos.  This youngster was sitting in the sun on the rocks and decided to dive into the water.  As he got to the edge of the rock he leaned forward for a look before taking the plunge.  I noticed that they all did it before diving.  Perhaps just making sure there aren't any sharks…
