Surf photography

The Pride went to Pollok Beach last weekend and I took a walk down to Pipe with Drama Princess to go and watch the surfers.  I can't say I was very surprised to find Luc Hosten, The Godfather of PE Photography (Friends of Schoenmakerskop), snapping away as the surfers rode the waves.

No Swimming… just yet

Summer is coming and the seasons are changes but its not quite ideal swimming weather yet.  The lifeguards are only coming on duty a bit closer to the season so the "No Swimming" signs are still up on Pollok Beach.

Elephant silhouette

I would never ever say no to an opportunity to go on a game drive.  Although I worked as a tourist guide for many years I never worked as a game ranger.  It never really crossed my mind back when I started working, but perhaps if I could do it all over again I may just have gone into that direction.  I still love being out in nature, watching the animals, the sun going down or coming up and most importantly I…

Predator Park boardwalk

The Seaview Game and Lion Park is currently busy with a re branding process and will in future be known as the Seaview Predator Park.  The boardwalk below the restaurant is one of the main features at the park and visitors can watch the lion and tiger cubs play below.  You can also have the opportunity to interact with the cubs and most international visitors love the chance to be able to touch and play with them.

Jumping dolphin in Happy Valley

Summer is getting closer and soon December will be here and the lights in Happy Valley back on.  We attended the Bay TV birthday celebrations on Heritage Day this past Monday and the Kidz said that they can't wait to go and see the characters when the lights are on again.

New play park

The play park at the new Kings Beach development is officially the Kidz' new favorite play area in town with all its "different" activities.  Personally I like the journey of giraffe next to the pathway which I have used as one of the clues in an "Amazing Race" type of competition called Travel Quest  I organised for this past Monday.

Sea monsters off Port Elizabeth

Is there such a thing as sea monsters?  Huge tentacled beasts dragging ships in under the waves, long necked dinosaur like animals who survived millions of years in the deep or scaly monsters with huge teeth so terrifying that Great White Sharks flee in fear?  A morning's hiking around the Cape Recife Nature Reserve in Port Elizabeth nearly had me thinking twice that I have found proof.Walking along the Algoa Bay side of the reserve I spotted a spiky spine visible amongst the waves.  I started to…

Old cars under threat

The St Croix Motor Museum in Port Elizabeth has one of the most magnificent private collections of classic and vintage cars in South Africa.  Unfortunately this museum is under threat of closing due to the fact that the government department that owns the property doesn't want to renew the museum's lease.  The owner of the museum, Eben de Vos, is a very worried man right now as there isn't another suitable site for him to move his collection of over 60 cars to with enough space…

Humewood 18th tee

Standing on the 18th tee of the Humewood Golf Course looking down the fairway towards the clubhouse in the distance.  Humewood is a links courses and is consistently ranked as one of South Africa's top golf courses.  The late Bobby Locke considered Humewood Golf Course to be the best in South Africa and said that it compared favourably with the top links courses in the British Isles.  I don't play much golf myself having never done a proper 18 hole course…

Up the dune

The sand dunes at Colchester outside Port Elizabeth are the western reaches of the Alexandria dune field, the largest coastal dune field in the Southern Hemisphere.  Although it is there for anybody to see, the only way to really get to them is by boat as you have to cross the Sundays River to get there.  The Sundays River Ferry is one of my favorite attractions in Port Elizabeth and thanks to the ferry I have had the opportunity to…
