Baakens Bench

A bench ideal for contemplation.  The difference between this one and others with similar views is that you don't have to hike for an hour to get to it to enjoy it.  It's located next to the Baakens Valley on the corner at the bottom of 2nd Avenue and Fordyce Road in Walmer

Golden glow on the beachfront

Regular Port Elizabeth Daily Photo follower Gerhard Burger sent me this picture last week.  Isn't that just the perfect winters afternoon in the Bay?

Giraffes on the beachfront

The harbour giraffes aren't the only giraffes you see on the beachfront.  There are also twenty kiddie giraffe rides at the Kings Beach Park play area.

Master Chef judging, the Firefly version – Ginger Restaurant

Port Elizabeth is very quickly getting a reputation as a good food destination with visiting bloggers and journalists raving about the variety and quality of restaurants and food markets available around the city in their articles.  Now I'm not food expert although I am known to enjoy a good steak / pizza / chop and braaibroodjie / plate of home cooked food / cinnamon and sugar pancake / or > insert whatever food here< on occasion.  I'm not the judgmental…

Hoisting the Campanile Bells

[youtube=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6fKyTXTvpBg&w=500&h=400]After taking down the Campanile bells and the renovation process, the bells have just been hoisted back into the top of the Campanile with Bell #23 going up on Wednesday.  Somebody thought it may be a good idea to attache a GoPro to the bell before it went up and thus we can all join it as it got hoisted back up.

Swartkops estuary birds

Not a lot of non-twitchers would know that the Swartkops River estuary is one of the best places around Port Elizabeth for bird watching.  It is home to a huge amount of estuarine and water birds and the ideal spot to tick off a few feathered friends from your bird list.

Silver seas at Hobie Beach

I needed to clear my head a bit this morning and took a walk across the road from the office and down onto Hobie Beach.  Not a lot of people around to enjoy the view of the sun glistening silver on the slightly choppy sea.  At least I could snap a pic to share with you.

Entrance to the Boardwalk

The Marine Drive entrance to the Boardwalk must be one of the most photographed landmarks in Port Elizabeth.  My office is above the tourism info centre just on the left as you walk under the arch and I literally see visitors taking pictures of the entrance every time I go outside.  Some of it on it's own, some in selfies and some with friends and family in it.  But always featuring the entrance.  Perhaps the Boardwalk could put Port Elizabeth up there…

Down the hill into Sundays

We spent the weekend in Kenton and heading back along the N2 this afternoon I asked the Damselfly to snap a pic with my phone as we came down the hill towards Colchester.  I've got to say this is one of those views that is a lot better in person than on a photo.  I'm curious why the lamp pole next to the road is wobbling...
