Kalk Bay Harbour

Compared to big city harbours the fishing harbour at Kalk Bay really has something special to it and when visiting you won't get stopped by security at the gate, except if the parking lot is full.  Kalk Bay Harbour is primarily a fishing harbour so that is what you will see.  Fishing boats leaving pre-dawn and returning in the afternoons with their catch, fishing boats off loading and fishing boats moored at quayside.  The majority of the boats in the harbour are painted…

Oscar Maximus visits the Donkin

Sacramento cannon head on

The brass cannon of the Portuguese galleon Sacramento, which sank close by in 1647, standing at the end of the road in Schoenmakerskop is a well known Port Elizabeth landmark and often gets photographed by both visitors and locals alike.  I've taken pictures of it from the side looking both east and west, but this was the first time I actually took a picture looking at it straight on from the front.

On the Fort’s wall

Stopping by Fort Frederick the other day I spotted this guy enjoying the view from the top of the fort's walls.  Looking at the picture I wonder what it would have looked like with soldiers on the walls just after the fort was built in 1799.

Subway

Living in Port Elizabeth we can't really say we know much about subways.  On our recent visit to Cape Town we took a train ride from Kalk Bay to Simon's Town.  As we had to board the train on the other side of the tracks we had to pass under it through a tunnel which, with its graffiti, was what I imagine subways would be like.

Athenaeum side view

The recently renovated Athenaeum building in Central isn't an easy one to photograph.  In the morning the whole front of the building is in shadow while the trees in front of it throws shadows on it in the afternoon.  I did get a picture of the side of the building (right next to the Little Theatre) the other morning on my way to No7 Castle Hill which is just down the road.

On the rocks
