A taste of the Wildsfees

[youtube=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LGicWAkYgvg&w=500&h=400]I was looking for a video about this year's ABSA Kirkwood Wildsfees for this week's Friday Video post.  Unfortunately they haven't uploaded a video for this year yet so I decided to go with a video about the 2014 Wildsfees.  A couple of artists and activities may have been different, but the vibe is still the same and you can get a good idea what it's about if you haven't been there.

Sundays River Mouth

We've all driven past the Sundays River at Colchester while on the N2, but have you ever wondered what the river mouth look like.  I can't say that I have actually been to the river mouth before, but I have seen it from the top of the dunes at Colchester.

A rocking Wildsfees in Kirkwood – in pictures

Every year on the last weekend of June, thousands of festinos make their way to the small Sundays River Valley town of Kirkwood for the annual Absa Kirkwood Wildsfees.  The Wildsfees, in it's 14th years already, brings some of the biggest names in the Afrikaans music industry to the town and combines it with a weekend of entertainment, activities, food and stalls.  Over the weekend in the region of 50 000 people attended the festival with over 20 000 people in the grounds on the Saturday…

Wildsfees crowd

It's amazing to experience a festival where there are between 20 000 and 30 000 people (I haven't seen the official numbers yet) through the gates on one day.  That is what happened at the ABSA Kirkwood Wildsfees on Saturday and going by the reaction of the artists I don't think they get to perform in front of those kind of numbers every day.  This was still early the afternoon but once the big name artists started to go on…

Burning a candle during load shedding

As much as people are complaining about load shedding, we aren't allowing it to get us down.  It does mean that we aren't always getting to do everything that we need to and one of those that's been neglected because of it has been my blogging.  I can't only blame Eishkom though.  It doesn't help that my laptop at home has a busted battery otherwise I could have spent a whole two hours at a time editing photos while everything else…

The Wildsfees stage was a winner

This past weekend the ABSA Kirkwood Wildsfees took place in the Sundays River Valley (note how I didn't say Kirkwood as I thought the name is quite obvious).  The Wildsfees has really become a serious contender as a "not to be missed Afrikaans music festival" with all the fringe actives and obligatory stalls and entertainment added on.  The highlight of the weekend is the music on the main stage with some of the best and most highly rated Afrikaans artists in…

Slipway at dusk

The old Humewood slipway is one of the city's landmarks  that often pop in in photos of the beachfront.  Oh look, it just popped up again.

Kings Beach sunset

If you are on the beachfront in Humewood one tends to think that east is directly over the bay and west is then behind you (if you are facing the bay).  The curve of the beachfront is slightly deceptive with west actually being to the left which means that the sun goes down over the city centre.

There’s a glow in the waves again
