Big 5

The Big Five was the phrase given by big-game hunters to the five most difficult or dangerous animals in Africa to hunt on foot. These days the Big 5 is high on the list of must-see attractions on a tourist’s list of things to do or see when visiting South Africa. I present to you, The Big 5.

African Elephant (Loxodonta africana)

Lion (Panthera leo)

Cape Buffalo (Syncerus caffer)

White Rhinoceros (Ceratotherium simum) (above) or Black Rhinoceros (Diceros bicornis)

Leopard (Panthera pardus)

All nice…love the leopard shot….his body looks so nice and relaxed but his back claw has a tight grip on the tree.

So nice that we now shot the Big 5 with our cameras instead of guns. They are all amazing creatures and I so look forward to seeing them myself.

Wonderful photos of them all! Especially since I doubt I'll get to see them in their natural habitat anytime soon.

And I have seen them all in the wild – except of course the LEOPARD! I am devestated that I haven't seen one in the wild. I have been with groups of people who have ALL seen one and as hard as I look I miss it every time!

Each of the big 5 are gorgeous animals. I can't imagine anyone killing them unless it was for food. The leopard shot is wonderful.

That is the most beautiful photo of a lion I have ever seen. That picture says it all — King of the Beasts. Lions are my favorite animals. They are magnificent, aren't they!? I cannot imagine killing any of these animals.Hunters should be taken out behind the barn and giving a good whomping. Imagine setting their sights on one of these animals and then killing it. Unbelievable!
